Appaloosa solar project represents industry milestone

With a power generation capacity of 240 MWdc / 200 MWac, this utility-scale solar plant marks a milestone for Greenbacker as the largest operating asset in its nationwide fleet of clean energy projects. Appaloosa also represents a landmark for the clean industry, as its financing included one of the first tax equity transactions to utilize the production tax credit for solar energy. While the project provides tech giant Meta with clean energy to support its regional operations, it also invests in the local community and economy. The project sponsors the Local First – Appaloosa Solar 1 Scholarship, under which awards are made to Southern Utah University students who plan to remain local while pursuing their career goals after graduation or certificate completion. Additionally, Appaloosa’s construction relied on many local vendors, delivering revenue to the area and supporting approximately 250 construction-related green energy jobs.

Energy storage units
With a total power capacity of 30 MW and the ability to store up to 120 MWh of energy, the Holtville BESS (battery energy storage system) project represents the Greenbacker fleet's largest standalone battery storage asset to date. The project can store enough energy to power approximately 4000 average homes for a 24-hour period.
